Dr. Vikram Mehta has studied Physics, Space Sciences, and Applications of Space Technology at Gujarat University (B.Sc., M.Sc., Post-Graduate Diploma in Space Sciences) in India; Upper-Atmospheric Physics at the University of Saskatchewan (Post-Graduate Diploma in Physics) in Canada; and Meteorology (M.S. and Ph.D.) at the Florida State University in the U.S.A. Dr. Mehta worked in Space Applications Center of the Indian Space Research Organization in India as a research fellow from 1979 to 1982 on active and passive microwave remote-sensing of land- and ocean-surface variables; and as a research scientist in Goddard Space Flight Center of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the U.S.A. from 1990 to 2002 on decadal climate variability and the global water cycle. He was also the chairman of the NASA-University of Maryland Joint Center for Earth System Science from 1995 to 1997. Additionally, Dr. Mehta has organized several international Workshops on decadal climate variability and has written and contributed to numerous reports on national and international research plans about decadal climate variability and global observing systems and about NASA's Earth Science research plans. Dr. Mehta has published over 25 research papers in scientific journals and has given over 75 invited and contributed seminars
